In mid September this year, I arrived at the Angel Whispers retreat centre, nestled in its stunning location by the sea shore on Achill Island. I had intended to visit for several months, after reading Mary’s story of manifesting her dream place, but somehow not quite getting round to it… Now that I was here, I marvelled at the beauty of the location, with the sea gently washing over the shoreline, and the sun shining gloriously in the sky. Fortuitously, that first evening we were blessed to welcome a new harvest moon. As we sat outside on the decking, wrapped in blankets against the chill night air with the sound of the waves wooshing gently in our ears; we joined in an uplifting meditation. I closed my eyes as I listened to the inspiring words invoking a new start.
Suddenly, I was disturbed by a hand prodding my arm, and a voice urgently saying “look”. My eyes flicked open, and I followed the pointing finger to see the gentle glow of the new moon rising majestically above the wispy black clouds that had previously shielded its glory. It was as if the glowing orb was responding to our emerging feelings of hope and optimism for the month ahead. As we marvelled at the eerie quality of night sky, the moon once again became shrouded in darkness.
Our conversation turned to the topic of lightness and dark, and I realised with sudden clarity, that although we could no longer see the moon, somewhere “out there” other people were now basking in the mellow, golden light. What an amazing realisation – even though we were now staring into darkness, we could still believe in the power of the light, knowing it was momentarily masked from our inquisitive eyes. Before long, the moon responded to our chatter, again rising above the shifting clouds. For the ensuing minutes it was as if the moon was playing a game of peak-a-boo with us… rising and falling from view in time with our thoughts on the light and the dark.
The following day, as the retreat began, I was to experience an even greater intuitive gift about the power of light in the dark…
